J. Betty Feng, PhD is currently an Associate Professor of International Business at Farmingdale State College (SUNY). Betty’s research includes intercultural interactions, cultural identity, and internationalization. She is particularly interested in the cultural factors on cognition, perception, and creativity at the micro, meso, and macro levels. As an applied scholar in the field of international management, Betty seeks to address scientific problems in a practical setting. Drawing various concepts from both sociology and psychology and applying them in the domain of international business management, her research is multi-disciplinary in nature, and will not only contribute to the theoretical development and knowledge enrichment of global management, but also provide managerial implications by offering practical solutions. Betty has published articles in Management and Organization Review, the International Journal of Business Information Systems, Asian Business & Management, Journal of Teaching in International Business, and among other outlets. Betty has received numerous awards and grants for teaching and research, such as 2019 Ruth B. Noller Research Grant to recognize her future research in the field of creativity.
Betty was the faculty advisor at FSC for the New York State Business Plan Competition during 2015 to 2019. To drive innovation awareness and multidisciplinary collaboration on campus, Betty started campus activities to engage students from all majors, such as Innovation Challenge and USPS Direct Effect Innovation Challenge. She mentors students through the business plan development process and leads students to participate in various business plan competitions from the campus to the state and national level. In addition, Betty is a certified facilitator of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and has conducted various workshops for organizations on the subjects of developing intercultural competence and innovation in a diverse workplace. She is an editorial board member at China Currents and a member of the Tradeable Sectors work group for Long Island Regional Economic Development Council.
Betty completed her PhD in Marketing and International Business at Georgia State University Before pursuing her PhD, Betty gained years of industry experience as a supply chain professional working with several global companies in both China and the United States. She holds both a BA in Supply Chain Management and MBA from Michigan State University’s Broad College of Business.
Betty was born and raised in Fujian, China and came to the United States in 2001. She currently resides in Long Island with her husband Zac and their lovely son, Miles.
